It's their proprietary file type/package, and currently they don't have plans to update the software to support Windows 10. (Source: Stardock forum). Here are some 3rd party sound schemes you may be interested. Even the sound schemes can be installed on Windows XP. The manual installation is exactly the same with Windows Vista Ultimate users installed the Windows Sound Schemes update package via WU. The direct download links to the setup installers are listed below. Download Windows Sound Schemes for 32-bit (x86) Windows Vista All Editions. Windows 10 should reinstall the appropriate audio driver after the reboot. To check, return to the Device Manager and see if your audio device appears under “Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.” If it’s not there, single-click to select the category followed by a right-click to open a pop-up menu.

Windows 10 is quite an impressive operating system. It’s fast, it runs all of my old apps (even my retro games!), and it has tons of security improvements. It’s even got some customizable features that you can use to tweak the interface.

I’ve always been keen on sound effects during logon, logoff, lock, and unlock events. They help audibly confirm that the event is done. Imagine how sad I was when these sounds were missing in Windows 10! Here’s how Control Panel / Sounds looks:

Those sound options are missing. Thankfully, Microsoft left the sound scheme mechanics in place for these events. All I had to do is enable them. Here’s how you can do it. Driver modem prolink 1456.

First open the Registry Editor. You can press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

How To Install Sound Schemes Windows 10 32-bit

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERAppEventsEventLabels. This is the list of Windows events that can have an associated sound. Scroll down in the list until you see:

• SystemExit
• WindowsLogoff
• WindowsLogon
• WindowsUnlock

Here’s an example of how WindowsUnlock will look:

For each of these, there’s a value called ExcludeFromCPL. When this value is set to 1, the sound is hidden in Control Panel. So set the value to 0.

Now head back to Control Panel, Sound, and look under Sounds.

Excelsior! The missing sounds are again at your disposal.

Event sounds (e.g., chimes, beeps, buzzes) notify you of an occurrence in Microsoft Windows. For example, when you press an invalid key in a program, connect a new device to your computer, or when an error occurs.

The settings for these event sounds are controlled through the Sound Properties section of the Control Panel. To adjust the sound settings for these notifications, follow the steps below.

Note

Changing or disabling sounds using the instructions below only affects sounds relating to Windows functionality. Software and game sounds are controlled through the program itself and are not affected by changing or disabling Windows event sounds.

Note

Some sounds like basic beeps are generated by the internal speaker and cannot be changed using the following steps.

Disable or change individual sounds

Follow these steps to disable or change specific system sounds in Windows.

1. Press the Windows key, type Control Panel, and then press Enter.

Or, open the Windows 10 Start menu, and choose Windows System > Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound.

3. Make sure that the Hardware and Sound tab on the left is selected, then click Sound near the center portion of the screen.

4. In the Sound window, click the Sounds tab.
5. In the Program Events section, locate the sound you'd like to disable or change in the drop-down list under the Sounds subsection. Select (None) to disable the sound or select a different sound file to change it.

6. Once you've made a selection, click and then click the button.

Disable or change all sounds

Follow these steps to disable or modify all system sounds in Windows.

1. Press the Windows key, type Control Panel, and then press Enter.
2. In the window that appears, click Hardware and Sound.

3. Make sure that the Hardware and Sound tab on the left is selected, then click Sound near the center portion of the screen.

4. In the Sound window, click the Sounds tab.
5. Expand the drop-down list under the Sound Scheme section. Select (None) to disable all program event sounds or choose a different or default scheme.
